Heavy Metal Containing QDs that are Organic Soluble

The heavy metal containing QDs have cadmium or lead. The cadmium containing quantum dots  are in the form of CdS/ZnS and CdSe/ZnS.  The CdS/ZnS have octadecylamine ligands on the surface and exhibit  fluorescence emissions at 400-460 nm, QY of 50%-90%, and Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) from 18 to 25 nm. These QDs are available in solid form or in organic solvent such as chloroform, hexane, octane, toluene, etc. 

The other cadmium containing QDs are the CdSe/ZnS which are very stable with a shelf life of >24 months. These have octadecylamine ligands on the surface, exhibit a QY of 60-90%, fluorescence emission at 50-650 nm, and FWHM at 25-35 nm. These QDs are available in solid form or in organic solvent such as chloroform, hexane, octane, toluene, etc.  

The lead containing QDs are in the form of PbS. These QDs exhibit a narrow size distribution, high quantum efficiency, and high color purity. They can be used for fluorescence and solar cell applications. The PbS QDs emit between 850-1600 nm but have a broad band emission with FWHM at 120-150 nm but QY >15%. The surface group is octadecylamine and maybe customized based on customer needs. This can be dissolved in chloroform, hexane, octane, or toluene.

Silver Nanoparticles

The silver nanoparticles (AgNP) are either water soluble or organic soluble. The water soluble AgNP is coated with amphiphilic polymer and PEG coating.  The organic coating consists of dodecanethiol, amphiphilic polymer, and a monolayer of PEG  with overall thickness of ~ 6 nm. The hydrodynamic size is ~12-14 nm thicker than the inorganic core measured under a TEM. The zeta potential ranges from -10mV to +10mV. It is stable in buffer at pH ~ 4-10 and can be autoclaved at 121°C for 30 min.

The nanoparticles are either in solid form or solution in chloroform or toluene or hexane


Gold Nanoparticlesthat are organic soluble

The organic soluble gold nanoparticles, AuNP, come in solid form or dissolved in organic solvent. The surface ligand is dodecanethiol with a  hydrodynamic size about 8-10 nm larger than their inorganic core size as measured underTEM. The solid AuNP can be dispersed in most organic solvents such as chloroform and toluene.

Quantum Dots that are soluble in organic solvents

Cadmium-FREEQDs

The organic soluble quantum dots are available with and without cadmium.  The QDs without cadmium are InP/ZnS and ZnSe/ZnS. The InP/ZnS QDs have octadecylamine ligands on the surface and exhibit broad range fluorescence emissions (500-750 nm), quantum yield from 50%-70%, and Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) from 50 to 70nm. These QDs are stable, resistant to chemical etching, and have a shelf life >12 months. These are available in solid or in organic solvent such as chloroform, dichloromethane, hexanes, toluene, etc.

The ZnSe/ZnS have octadecylamine ligands on the surface with very narrow emission bands (12-18 nm FWHM) at 400-440 nm. These QDs exhibit a quantum yield (QY) of 60-90%.

Quantum Dots

Quantum dots (QDs) are made of semiconductor atoms from groups II and VI (i.e. CdSe, CdS, ZnSe or groups III and V (i.e. InP) or other combinations.    QDs contain between 200–10,000 atoms and can vary in size between 2-100 nm in diameter. QDs are brighter more stable and resistant to photo-bleaching unlike the organic dyes. The large surface area to volume ratio that is imparted by the small size makes QDs easy to functionalize with different biomolecules for various applications. The water soluble QD are coated with PEG which renders 60-80% -OH and 20-40% -COOH or -NH2. The PEG-coating results in a ~20 nm thickness.

Nanomaterials

The nanomaterial (NMs) are becoming more and more important in various areas of research, development, and in the market. These are a result of their unique mechanical, electrical, and                                                                                                optical properties that are  controlled by the chemical composition                                                                                                       and the size.  They can be water soluble or organic soluble. The NMs                                                                                                      that are water soluble are useful for for biotechnology                                                                                                                 applications . NMs that are not water soluble are used in various                                                                                                       industries such as sports, construction, solar cells, electronics,
paints, water purification-disinfection-desalination, automotive                                                                                                      industry, industrial catalysts, and many more.  We offer both the                                                                                                         water soluble and non-water soluble nanomaterials.

 

  • Water Soluble Form

The water soluble nanomaterials are used in medicine, food, cosmetics and skin care, agriculture, pet care, and many more. The water soluble NMs are biocompatible although some may exhibit toxicity to cells and animals. The use of PPE is adviced when handling any form of NMs. 

 

Gold nanoparticles

The water soluble gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are coated with a monolayer of polyethylene glycol, PEG. The PEG coating offers either a carboxyl (-COOH) or an amine (-NH2) functional group. These can be autoclaved at 121°C for 30 min without causing any damage.The AuNPs can be attached to protein, peptide, nucleic acid, and other molecules through the
respective functional groups. It is advisable to remove the as received buffer from the biomolecule through a buffer exchange before proceeding with attachment to the AuNPs.

The gold nanoparticles with carboxyl groups (AuNPC) exhibit a zeta potential between -20mV to -50mV. These are very stable in most buffer solutions at pH 2-14.

The gold nanoparticles with amine groups (AuNPN) exhibit a zeta potential between -10mV to +10mV. The surface coating  consist of a monolayer of dodecanethiol, a monolayer of amphiphilic polymer, and a monolayer of long chain PEG-NH2 resulting in ~6 nm thickness. The hydrodynamic size of the AuNPN is ~12-14 nm larger than the inorganic core as seen under TEM. These are  very stable in most buffer solutions at pH 4-10.  

Nanoliposomes

The nanoliposomes are biodegradable biocompatble nanoparticles made of phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl inositol, phosphatidyl ethanolamine. The sizes range from 50 nm to 1 um. These are very stable and may be kept at room temperature.
